Instruction for Volunteers

Admitting visitors to CSS

Volunteer Staff will be responsible for the safety of visitors and the sustainability of the land which CSS stewards. How can we best serve our visitors and be exemplary Stewards of the Land ?

ALL guests must be oriented

  • What is CSS ? - An all volunteer organization creating strewards for the next generation. We are not a self-sufficient. Sustainability requires the efforts and resources of our guests.

  • Visitors are encouraged to support our non-profit so they may enjoy the trails, animals, experiences, and equipment maintained by CSS.

  • Visitors must show ID and sign a waiver to enter our protected space

  • All cars must have a parking pass. Vehicle tags are recorded

  • No pets. Unfamiliar dogs disturb nesting creatures and upset our farm animals.

Safety

Know the hazards

  • Ticks, chiggers, snapping turtles, insect stings, snakes, poison plants, non-ID’ed visitors

  • CSS Farm. There is a proper way to feed animals (no fingers). Due to insurance requirements, all persons must use antiseptic cleanser after touching animals. Before leading CSS guests into any private farm, be sure to secure the permission of the farmer.

Environment

  • Natural cleaning products are used wherever possible

  • Protect our watershed. No trash or toxic chemicals. There are some places in the creek where we drink the living water. All water flows downhill.

CSS Adventure Center (next to the CSS farm store)

  • Bicycle users must sign the csswaiver and sign out a specific bicycle for a specific time (exchange for ID). Riders strongly advised to wear a protective helmet.

  • Watercraft Meet explorers at the CSS Adventure Center In exchange for a driver license, and after each adult has signed a waiver (for themselves and any minors for whom they are a guardian), you may issue specific oars and personal flotation devices to each explorer. A large personal flotation device (PFD) must be in each watercraft. Swimming is not permitted. Return driver’s license after all equipment associated with that party (oars and PFDs) have been returned. If parties may be returning at different times, obtain a drivers license for each party .
